"Where size does matter"
We do not show or breed from stock that does not fit within the breed standard for size. We consider height a very important aspect of the Lowchen and our other breeds and endeavour to breed true to type and within the standard.
Lowchen are meant to be a ladies toy dog, playful and easy to pick up to rest in the ladies lap. Once Lowchen get larger, their weight also increases, thus they cannot perform the
task they have been bred for over hundreds of years. The same can be said for Maltese, and for the Fox Terriers it is important they can go to ground and perform the tasks they were bred for originally.
On each page we offer the height of our lovely dogs used for show or breeding in our small establishment. The measurement is taken at the wither as adults.
Kilgarrin Kennels are dedicated to the showing and breeding of our Lowchen. We are not breeding Maltese or Fox Terriers at this stage, and recommend you contact the Maltese Club of Victoria if you are looking for a quality Maltese and the Fox Terrier Club of Victoria for a quality Foxie.
We endeavour to ensure any puppy or adult you buy from us is healthy, typical of the breed, well socialised and a wonderful companion.
Established in 1971, over the years we have been involved in various breeds such as Shih-Tzu, American Cocker Spaniels, Greyhounds, Shetland Sheepdogs, Collie Rough and Smooth, Border Collies, Australian Kelpies, Maltese, Fox Terrier (Wire) and Lowchen.
Lowchen are our primary canine love - we hope you too can have a love affair with a Kilgarrin Lowchen.
Pure Bred dogs - some of the reasons we think pure bred dogs are prefereable to mixed breeds.

Thank you for visting our web pages. We hope you enjoy reading our news and seeing photo's of our adored Lowchen and Maltese.
We do not breed very often as you will see, but we take pride in the quality of the Lowchen we produce and when we eventually breed Maltese or Fox Terriers (Wire) the same dedication is assured.
We endeavour to breed healthy, happy, well adjusted companions for the showring and other disciplines. Please feel free to read about any prospects that may be available for sale on our Puppy Sales page.
Our very first introduction to the Lowchen breed was with Aust Ch Shysu Featherweight - my eldest daughter showed him to his title when she was only young in the 1980's. Now we have ventured back into the breed thanks to the two fabulous Jonquilow Lowchen we were able to purchase.
Buyers Beware of sellers who do not provide registration papers with their pups. Canine Council regulations are that all pups must be sold with papers, whether they are Limited Register or Main Register. You also need these papers to 'transfer' the dog into your name with the Canine Council within your state canine control.
Genuine breeders of pure bred dogs will be members of a Canine Controlling body in their state and the papers must always be supplied at no extra cost with a puppy. In Victoria all pups must be microchipeed before Dogs Victoria will register them.
We are dedicated to breeding pure bred dogs and can assure you designer dogs are not for us. We consider Lowchen Fox Terriers and Maltese to be the best designed dogs there is - no need to change a thing!
These breeds make excellent companions and are a joy to live with. These breeds are healthy and robust.
